ECNS App DownloadChina has no wish to challenge or threaten anyone, but it also does not fear challenges or threats from others, Senior Colonel Ren Guoqiang, spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, said in a news briefing on Thursday.
In early March, the United States released the Interim National Security Strategic Guidance, calling China the “only competitor potentially capable … to mount a sustained challenge to a stable and open international system”.
Ren criticized the report and recent rhetoric by U.S. defense officials as full of “Cold War” mentality.
“The U.S. is playing a trick to manufacture an enemy by hyping up its threat, so it can make excuses to continue its hegemony,” he said.
“China resolutely opposes the U.S. following the law of the jungle and its dangerous misinterpretation of Chinas intent,” he said, adding it wasnt factual, nor in the interests of both nations and the rest of the world.
“China has no wish to challenge anyone, but it also does not fear challenge from anyone,” he said. “China has the right to develop, the freedom to choose its path, the ability to defend itself and the need to protect its legitimate rights.”
No individual or power can stop the progress of Chinese people pursuing better lives, he said.
“The Chinese military will always have the determination and capability to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.”
Ren said China hopes the U.S. can read the trends, rationally look at China and the development of its military, and properly handle military-to-military relations and bilateral ties. “We hope the U.S. can work with China to enhance dialogue, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, properly manage risks and differences, and facilitate healthy and stable China-U.S. military relations going forward,” he said.MorePhotoWuhan bid farewell to beloved pandasEcological tea plantation in FujianFossil of extinct tree-climbing kangaroo found in AustraliaIn pics: Historic and cultural city FuzhouXi hails development of FuzhouHistoric image of black hole reveals surrounding magnetic fieldsSecond batch of China-donated COVID-19 vaccines arrives in ManilaFirst Panda Train in Sichuan launches trial servicesSevere flood inundates communities in NSWClouds over Mount Sanqingshan in E ChinaHealth is primary indicator of peoples happy life: XiScenery of yardang landform in XinjiangImage of Ingenuity helicopter from Perseverance on MarsWhite peacock puts its plumage on displayCOVID-19 vaccination underway for college staff and students in BeijingSpring flowers in full bloom in FranceDream-like glass water slide boosts tourism in C ChinaArtworks including Picasso silverware up for auctionSouth Korean president gets first dose of COVID-19 vaccineE Chinas Rongcheng begins to harvest KelpOld Town Square painted with white crosses in memory of victims of COVID-19 pandemic in PragueEthnic Yi people perform traditional Nuo ritualAt least 10 killed in mass shooting in U.S. ColoradoSpring snow blankets SW China’s citySpring tea picking in full swing in E ChinaLong-dormant volcano erupts in IcelandAncient tomb discovered at Sichuan Normal UniversityXinjiang-themed photo exhibition opens in BeijingWorld Water Day: Flowing art created by natural artistComma-shaped 3D-printed book house unveiled in ShanghaiAzalea flowers enter blooming season in Guizhou, SW ChinaHundreds gather in Washington to protest against Asian HateChongqing citizens play game to raise garbage sorting awarenessSpring snow hits NW Chinas LanzhouWorlds largest Gashapon shop breaks Guinness World RecordMaximum opening angle of Jiefang Bridge testedMost popular in 24h$(function () {$.ajaxSetup({cache: true});var tStr = new Date().getUTCHours()+_+ new Date().getUTCMinutes();$.ajax({type: “get”,dataType: “json”,url: “/part/6/ecns_rank24h.json?t=”+ tStr,success: function (status) {var str = “”;$.each(status,function(index,obj){obj.title = obj.title.replace(/'/g, ');str +=+obj[“title”]+;});$(“#rank24″).html(str);},error:function(status){}});});MoreTop newsChina slams fabricated forced labor lies on Chinas Xinjiang Mechanical cotton harvesting long adopted in Xinjiang: local official Wuhan bid farewell to beloved pandas Ecological tea plantation in Fujian China, Russia forge best partnership in worldMoreVideoInternational Horticultural Exposition 2021 to open in Jiangsu16 rare Chinese mergansers spotted in GuangxiLINEMedia partners:Peoples Daily Online|Xinhuanet|China.org.cn|ChinaDaily.com.cn|CGTN|Globaltimes.cn|Chinaplus.cri.cn|Shine.cn|JSCHINA|
