Its initiatives like these that make win-win situations possible,” Bettel told Xinhua in a recent interview.Proposed by China in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road trade routes.Bettel made an official visit to China in June this year, one he said was fruitful.”Four agreements were signed during the visit. The visit also allowed me to discover China. And it was also a visit that allowed me to see (the country) in the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and China, a relationship of trust that continues,” he said.”What impressed me, for example, is Chinas leadership role, also in respect of COP21. When I was in China, it was just some time after (US) President (Donald) Trump said he did not want to follow (the Paris Climate Accord),” Bettel said.”We could have had a domino effect. And I met strong Chinese leaders, who want to defend the COP21, who want to continue to have a political responsibility that is not always popular but necessary to preserve for future generations.”Amid a rising protectionist tendency against Chinese investment in Europe, Bettel told Xinhua that the two sides “have to agree to do something that will satisfy both parties, something that will benefit the one and the other, without it being at the cost of the other.””I think that the Sino-European cooperation must be a cooperation that works. We tend to stigmatize what is wrong and yet there are so many things that work. When you see the partnership between Europe and China, whether its Luxembourg and China, or Europe and China, we need each other,” Bettel said.”We need international trade and exchange, and I think that it is through understanding and respect for one and the other that we can move forward,” he said.Xinhua0PhotoNight views of Harbin through the lensTibetans take train home after pilgrimage or travellingWorlds largest shaftless Ferris wheel built in ChinaAncient cities to be connected by Xian-Chengdu high-speed railwaySnow turns Harbin into winter wonderlandReed Catkin Festival held in WuhanSocietyPoliticsHot TopicsScience/TechBusinessCover StoryFTZ simplifies process to launch businessesJapan can offer experience, expat saysApplication for work streamlinedAwareness of law aids resolutionAir Force units explore new airspaceLow wages and lack of respect responsible for kindergarten abuse, experts sayLiu heralds UK partnership in education and researchAgency ensuring natural gas supplyUN envoys trip to DPRK praised by BeijingChina moves to secure natural gas supply amid rising winter demandXi asks China, Canada to work for substantial tiesCooperation necessary for success, leaders sayLiving in space: How astronauts train, eat and workTeachers excused for lunchtime drinksWaiting for Shenzhou XICancer agent found in 44 cities drinking waterAt Ikea eatery, its no pay, no stayChina lose 2-0 to Uzbekistan in World Cup qualifier, coach Gao resignsC919 gains another 55 orders, lifting total orders to 785Services offset dip in manufacturingFintech to energize real economy, cut risksChinas Long March rockets complete 60 commercial launchesEngineers achieve breakthroughChina-made components add securityOnline shopping rings up customer complaintsImport expo to focus on advanced techSME mobile market platform receives first clientsChina top importer of US soybeansAir China opens direct route from Beijing to BarcelonaInsurance-based trust launchedDandelion helping to sow the seeds of stability for membersCover storyVisa change may boost tourism to USThe wrong side of the roadBuilding ban begins to biteVillagers call on Japan to atone for massacreMost ViewedTodays Top NewsZhejiang University spearheads effort to authorize online worksBird-strike display aims toboost aviation safetyOfficial: No room for talk about HK independenceBeijing adopts tougher set of protocols to deal with air pollutionChinas cargo spacecraft separates from Tiangong-2 space labVisually impaired runner finishes 3rd Beijing MarathonCPC improves overall quality of Party officialsChina to air documentary on social, economic achievementsSenior CPC official stresses cyber security ahead of key Party congressChinas cargo spacecraft completes third in-orbit refuelingState Council NewsPremier stresses proper relocation arrangements in poverty reliefChina to further supply-side structural reformAfter sharing bikes, sharing umbrellas, sharing cars, can you guess the latest entrant in the sharing economy?
